Historic Ashcroft
For the Strong Eye Only Pat Foster
When noted Canadian journalist Bruce Hutchinson wrote about his visit to Ashcroft, BC in the 1950s, he said the scenery was "for the strong eye only." His opinion was that the harshness of the landscape could please but a few observers. With this collection of historic articles and photographs, author Pat Foster argues that both the landscape and the local past deserve greater recognition. She offers essays on selected topics relating to Ashcroft´s history: from the great fire of 1916 to the freighters of the BX Company, from the Chinese community to the annals of the local newspapers, and manages to demonstrate a unique history of this area.
