TREES AND SHRUBS IN WINTER
An Identification Guide for Northern British Columbia
Rosamund Pojar

"Stark naked all winter. That's the situation for most trees and shrubs in this country, leafless from autumn to spring. And that lack of foliage makes identification tough. This book comes to the rescue. No leaves? No problem. The bark, the buds, the twigs and stems, the remaining fruits all offer clues to identification." Ben Gadd, award winning guide and author

"This book is a must for naturalists in the interior of British Columbia. Evi Coulson's wonderful illustrations and Rosamund Pojar's authoritative text make it accurate and easy to use." Dick Cannings, author of British Columbia: A Natural History

With the help of this book, it is possible to identify most trees and shrubs – down to the smallest ground creepers – in winter. The descriptions contain enough detail to satisfy the experts but are written in language accessible to the weekend naturalist. The line drawings have been created with identification in mind. The plants in this book are found throughout BC and the Rockies with a focus on those north of Williams Lake. The book is full of information of interest to natural history buffs, outdoor and winter recreationists, and natural resource professionals among others. It contains:

Clear identification keys, including conifers and deciduous plants

• Detailed line drawings for identification

• Comments on each species give snippets of history, ethnobotany, medicinal uses

and other interesting anecdotes

• Full index
