Neekna and Chemai are two little girls growing up in the Okanagan Valley before the coming of the white man. Through these two friends, we learn about the seasonal life patterns of the Okanagan Indian people, a tribe in the interior of British Columbia.

About the Author and Illustrator:

Neekna and Chemai is a work of fiction written by Jeannette Armstrong, who is the author of the acclaimed historical novel Slash. She has also written and illustrated Enwhisteetkwa: Walk in Water and Breath Tracks, a collection of her poems and visual arts.

Barbara Marchand is from the Okanagan Band in Vernon, BC. She received the 2007 British Columbia Creative Achievement Award and is the Traditional Arts Professor for the En'owkin Centre in Penticton, BC.
