Where do you find a gaggle of geese frolicking with a herd of hiccupping Herefords? ...in Alfalfabet A to Z: The Wonderful Words from Agriculture! From Ants on Asparagus to Zoom, Zoom Zucchini, new readers meet the many sights, sounds, flavours, seasons--even smells--of the amazing world of agriculture. Chrildren will enjoy learning more about where their food comes from and how crops are grown. In Alfalfabet, children meet and learn about the animals and plants we raise to make the many things we need and discover that agriculture is all around them touching every part of their lives. The descriptive, energetic language of Alfalfabet brings to life the diverse world of agriculture with the help of its countless characters and plentiful plants. Bold illustrations convey the larger, bird's-eye view of agriculture as well as the intricate details. An alphabet format with linking lines for each letter draws in new and emerging readers, while questions and facts encourage older children to find out more and draw from their own experiences. A glossary at the end of the book directs readers to go back and find the words from agriculture, giving the book an interactive element. Alfalfabet is published by the British Columbia Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation (BCAITC), a foundation that works with educators through its various teaching resources and programs to actively bring BC's agriculture to their students. Author Carol Watterson and illustrator Michela Sorrentino live in Vancouver, BC.
