Following Nimishoomis tells the story of Dedibaayaanimanook Sarah Keesick Olsen and the Namegosibiing Trout Lake community in northwestern Ontario. In 1922, Dedibaayaanimanook was born in Namegosibiing—her ancestral homeland—and she gained firsthand knowledge about traditional teachings and ways of life there. The story reveals the many challenges that she and her community faced in that critical period of change. Dedibaayaanimanook grew up in a way that was barely touched by Europeans, witnessed at a young age European encroachment and lived her adult life coping with challenging changes. By drawing on the worldviews instilled by her parents and grandparents, Dedibaayaanimanook raised a family with a European partner in a society dominated by European values. But she never forgot the values of her own people.
