JULIUS SEIZURE
The Secret World of Bankruptcy, Debt Collection and Student Loans
Douglas P. Welbanks

Julius Seizure journeys to a place where few are willing to travel, deep into the mysterious world of financial hardship, bankruptcy and insolvency. Struggling in the shadows of unprecedented wealth is a silent but nevertheless growing population of Canadians who have been slipping deeper and deeper into debt since the 1970's. Much to their horror many honest individuals and families find the promise of compassion and a fresh start to be absent from the bankruptcy process. The treatment of student loan debtors illustrate clearly and powerfully how the legal rights, rules and traditions have been changing.

Julius Seizure brings a unique collection of historical facts and compelling real-life stories together in an effort to break down the barriers of a highly specialized area of law and bring life to the complex legal and financial concepts that are shaping the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals and families every year.

Welbanks and co-contributors Lorraine Short and Julian Benedict depict the many dimensions to the instant gratification culture and a society increasingly dependant on credit for not just consumer products and services but also for post secondary education. Why bankruptcy is important and its fundamental role in the Canadian guarantee of social justice is examined and highlighted.
